7 PM, October 29th
College of William & Mary
Rory Maguire, Ph.D.
Associate Professor of Crop and Soil Environmental Sciences, Virginia Tech
Dr. Maguire’s research focuses on optimizing farming practices to minimize their
environmental impact. He conducts field and laboratory research to investigate
innovative ways to apply animal manure as fertilizer without leading to nutrient
overloading. Dr. Maguire also has an extensive outreach program that helps educate and train local farmers in nutrient management.
Kang Xia, Ph.D.
Associate Professor of Crop and Soil Environmental Sciences, Virginia Tech
Dr. Xia’s research revolves around the fate of anthropogenic chemicals in soil and water, such as pharmaceutical compounds and nutrients from animal waste. Her research focuses to trace the environmental transformation of these contaminants at the micro-scale in order to establish more effective waste treatment protocols.
